Patent Reform Patent Reform has been introduced into the 111th Congress AUTM has joined the Association of American Universities, the American Council on Education, the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges, the Association of American Medical Colleges and the Council on Governmental Relations to issue a position statement on patent reform legislation. (800-372-1033) http://www.bna.com The Kauffman Foundation “Solution” The Harvard Business Review has published its list of “Ten Breakthrough Ideas for 2010,” which includes Kauffman’s “solution” to improve university technology licensing. Read the Kauffman Foundation's press release here. Their breakthrough idea is to allow any inventor to choose any licensing agent regardless of their academic affiliation. Kauffman alleges that technology licensing offices are “underperforming” and are a “major impediment.” AUTM does not believe this is the case and wants its membership to know that it is taking a proactive stance by preparing a response to the article. AUTM Announces Global Health Initiative AUTM announced the launch of a new Global Health Initiative that promotes licensing practices that support access to essential medicines by developing countries. The initiative includes a Global Health Toolkit created by AUTM members. In keeping with this initiative, AUTM endorsed the University Principles on Global Access to Medicines.
